ENGAGING THE BAY - BY DESIGN,

NOT DISASTER

There’s no time to wait — It’s time to come together and begin imagining a new future for all of us.
— Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge

Keynote Presentation

The Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge was a yearlong collaborative design challenge that brought together local residents, public officials and local, national and international experts to develop innovative, community-based solutions that will strengthen the Bay Area’s resilience to sea level rise, severe storms, flooding and earthquakes. Hear from the co-founder and Chair of the Board for the project along with the leader of the Bionic team.

We’ll zoom in on one of the Challenge’s winning projects, which will show communities a new way to live with the Bay. Elevate San Rafael proposes elevating not only land and infrastructure, but the community and its relationship with the water, too. By looking beyond old-school flood engineering and exploring the needs of local businesses and residents, the team discovered community-enhancing solutions to immediate needs for flood control and long-term resilience planning.
